The Top 10 ASMR Triggers

ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is becoming more popular as time goes on. It is a euphoric feeling or tingling sensation that develops in response to a certain sound or video. There are many triggers that can stimulate a response, but here I will only name the top 10.

  • Whispering - This is the most common type of ASMR trigger. Many ASMR artists feature this type of trigger in their videos. Some use a mixture of audible and inaudible whispering. They softly speak certain words or phrases that will induce tingles for almost anyone.
There are certain words such as "relax" and "calm" that will cause tingles. These words are very              often repeated and provide for a better ASMR experience.

The whispering can be either soft speech or totally unintelligible to the point where it cannot be              understood. The pops and other sounds this indecipherable language causes is an excellent                      ASMR trigger for many people.

Many ASMR artists have binaural microphones. Recording binaurally means there are 2                          microphones recording the sound, one for each ear. It creates a 3-D sound experience that many              enjoy.

  • Finger Fluttering - This is another type of ASMR trigger that creates a pleasant experience. Finger fluttering is when the artist moves their fingers in quick, irregular motions back and forth against each other. The sound can be very relaxing, relieve stress, and bring about sleep.
  • Tapping - This is one more ASMR trigger that is fairly common in a lot of videos. Tapping sounds made from long nails or the finger tips lightly hitting against a surface can be calming. Many ASMR artists vary the types of surfaces they tap in order to gain a unique sound for their viewers.
  • Scratching - Many people enjoy this to trigger ASMR for them. Scratching textured or rough surfaces with long, well-manicured nails creates an extraordinary sound. A popular one is denim or burlap.
  • Brushing -  ASMR artists create brushing sounds by rubbing a make-up brush or paint brush over the microphone. Personal attention can be mimicked by lightly moving the brush down over the camera lens. This can trigger the tingles for many people.
  • Spraying sounds - Liquid spraying or shaking is also a common ASMR trigger. The repetitive sound of the sprayer brings about feelings of euphoria and tingling, which causes relaxation, and ultimately, sleep.
  • Crinkling and crackling sounds - This type of trigger can be brought about by using a variety of things such as bubble wrap, plastic bags, plastic wrap, or aluminum foil.
  • Light - Often times, following light will induce tingles in people who are able to experience ASMR. They enjoy following light such as flashlights or laser lights. This provides a person with a small task that requires no thought. Therefore, they can relax and fall asleep.
  • Hand movements - This is another activity that will stimulate ASMR tingles. The gentle, calm, fluid movements of an ASMR artist moving their hands around the screen can induce pleasant shivers and euphoric feelings.
  • Writing sounds - Writing with different types of tools such as pens, pencils, and markers will help many people get the tingles. Therefore, a lot of ASMR artists choose to do this in their videos along with inaudible whispering.

ASMR stimulates feelings of well-being and euphoria. It is a good way to wind down at the end of a long, hard day. If you are one of the lucky ones, you will be able to experience it and get the tingles. This will help you relax, calm your racing thoughts, and help you to fall asleep fast.

There are many other ASMR triggers that may cause tingles for you as well, but these are the main ones that are most common for people. If you've never experienced ASMR, feel free to try a few of these. If you have, leave a comment below and tell everyone what you enjoy best!

Love to you all!
